How To Make Brisket Fried Rice For Your Next Dinner! (Feat. TSO)
TSO Chinese and Black's BBQ teamed up in August for a limited-time brisket fried rice special. Here's how it came together.
Watch How It Was Made
What could be better than fried rice? Well, if you're asking us, it's brisket fried rice! In August, Black's BBQ partnered with Tso Chinese Takeout & Delivery for a cross-cultural dish that packed serious heat, smoke, and history into one takeout box. Brisket Fried Rice — made with legendary smoked brisket from Black's BBQ and wok-fired flavor from Tso's Chinese kitchen.
The result was a limited-time dish that bridged two food cultures and celebrated the bold flavors of both.
How The Brisket Fried Rice Was Made
Our brisket fried rice recipe started with chopped brisket from Black's BBQ, tossed into a custom-built, high-powered induction wok alongside freshly scrambled eggs. Peas, carrots, onions, and scallions were added to build out the traditional fried rice base, while a house-made sauce—a mix of soy sauce, mushroom soy sauce, dark soy sauce, fish sauce, and a hint of yum yum—brought depth, umami, and a hint of sweetness. A dash of white pepper added an extra layer of warmth, and for those who wanted even more smoke, a drizzle of Black's BBQ sauce on top took it over the edge. Every component was cooked in the wok under intense heat to capture that seared, smoky “wok hei” flavor that makes this style of cooking so craveable.
More Than a Dish — A Nod to Food History
As Tso's co-founder, Min explained, Chinese food has deep roots in American food culture, dating back over 150 years. This collab honored that tradition while adding a Central Texas twist.
And with Black's BBQ being around since 1932, this felt like a natural pairing of two long-standing food worlds, brought together for something new and unexpected.
