We Tried The #1 Texas BBQ (Goldees)

Barrett Black and the crew from the Original Black's BBQ recently took a trip to Fort Worth to visit Goldie's BBQ, one of the most talked-about names in Texas barbecue. They stood in line. They got soaked in the rain. And they walked away with a tray full of brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage, and banana pudding. But was it worth the hype?

Yes. It absolutely was.

The Line Was Long, But the Hospitality Was Real

After more than two hours in line, Barrett noted how friendly the team at Goldie's was even before ordering. They answered questions, provided samples, and ensured that every plate was sliced, arranged, and served with care. The experience wasn't just about the food—it was about how they treated the people waiting for it.

Brisket, Ribs, Sausage & More — Every Bite Delivered

Here's what stood out:

  • Brisket had a perfect smoke ring, deep bark, and soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture underneath. They use high-quality Creekstone Farms beef and cook on Mill Scale smokers, which help achieve that perfect bark without it becoming too hard or too soft.

  • Ribs had a slightly sweet note, a bold black pepper bark, and a clean pull off the bone. The membrane was left on—something Barrett actually appreciated for helping retain moisture and texture.

  • Turkey was juicy, well-seasoned, and likely dipped in butter or a finishing sauce. It had a strong black pepper flavor with a good balance of smoke and salt.

  • Sausage was made from brisket trimmings, tightly ground and snappy, with visible mustard seed and black pepper. It had a noticeable chew, but not in a bad way—just enough to contrast with the softer cuts.

Even the homemade bread got a nod, and the banana pudding nearly disappeared before the team could leave the table.

It Was More Than Just the BBQ

What stood out even more than the food was the sense of community. Despite the rain, people were tailgating in line—camp chairs, conversations, kids playing. The staff kept energy high and spirits up. It felt like a celebration, not just a lunch stop.

Final Verdict: Worth It

From the food to the service to the shared experience in the rain, Goldie's BBQ lived up to the hype. The team's attention to detail, their commitment to quality, and their personal spin on Texas barbecue make this spot a must-visit.
